The I love to cook book
Published in Unknown Binding by [Essandess Special Editions ()
Average review score:

Every Recipe a Home RunAn Oldie but a Goodie. I own over 100 cookbooks and this tiny gem remains one of my treasured favorites. It is one of a handful I keep within reach of my stove. Arlyn really does love to cook, but she's no snob. Every recipe is a winner, yet amazingly easy. She offers the definitive recipes for the most coveted and classic dishes: she is my source for Caesar Salad, the world's best (New York style) Cheesecake, and the easiest Chocolate Mousse on the planet. The Chocolate Mousse was such a hit that on two separate occasions, two different men tasted the mousse and proposed (marriage) on the spot--so serve with care...but what a way to go. She offers countless appetizers and entrees that make entertaining a fabulous breeze. If this book were not out of print, it would be my first choice for a hostess gift or a gift for a cooking afficiando. Since it is out of print, you'll have to make an effort to find it--but you'll be glad you did. If you can, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I Want to Be a Chef
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Great pictures and information for career education. This book addresses the many aspects of being a chef. Great gift for inspiring chefs. The back of the book has a lot of great resources. I am sharing this book with my second grade class as we explore careers. My son is a chef and this book explains to kids the training and jobs that chefs do. The pictures were the first thing that caught my eye - big and very realistic. This is a career that is in demand now and the future. This book is a great introduction for middle age readers also as they look for jobs to explore.

An Ill Fate Marshalling
Published in Paperback by Tor Books (January, 1988)

Back into action, but left hangingThis is a follow-up to Reap the East Wind. This book is where the Dread Empire story truly begins again. Many references to the earlier books will probably be frustrating this time for those who have not read the Dread Empire trilogy. The characters have grown from their trials, but this doesn't stop them from getting into new trouble. The battles are smaller and more personal, but no less serious for those involved. While each earlier volume is self contained, AIFM ends with a cliff-hanger that has never been resolved. The next volume has been written, but never published. Perhaps the success of Cook's recent books will lead to this series being reprinted and continued. These books deserve a wider audience!

Immortal Summer: A Victorian Woman's Travels in the Southwest: The 1897 Letters & Photographs of Amelia Hollenback

A vivid, superbly organized and presented primary sourceCompiled, edited and Annotated by Mary J. Straw Cook, Immortal Summer: A Victorian Woman's Travels In The Southwest is a collection of letters and black-and-white photographs by Amelia Hollenback, a Victorian woman who had the opportunity to see 1897 America with her own eyes. With extensive contextual annotation, Immortal Summer is a vivid, superbly organized and presented primary source which takes in what American life, land and people were really like more than a century ago. One curious note: Author and historian Mary Cook lives in Santa Fe in the very house that Amelia Hollenback commissioned John Gaw Meem to build in 1932!

This does not belong under baby books! This book is geared toward the pre-teen/early teen reading level... it would be way beyond a toddlers perspective!
It is packed full of information... from how to struggle through a snow drift to dodging danger in the big city. There are lots of facts about survival kits, first aid, food, shelter and map-reading. It has wonderful, clear illustrations.

Internet Adventures for Young Children: 101 Websites and Hands-on Activities
Published in Paperback by Incentive Publications,Inc. (15 May, 1999)
Average review score:

Great interactive book for you and your childrenWhat a terrific subject. We spend so much time on our computers that to engage our children in these activities, while learning something new, is a useful way to intergrate it into everyday life. Especially nice is the offline activites generated through the activity of being online. It's also nice to know that two full-time mothers decided to put together this book for those of us who are not as industrious (or organized). Thanks to Janet and Catherine for the untold hours put into gathering and hunting. Are your kids tired of the computer yet? I doubt it, keep up the fun work.
